If you've noticed strange product and brand advertisements popping up in your Facebook newsfeed, you are not alone.
The social networking site began promoting business Facebook pages in its users’ newsfeeds worldwide in a bid to boost advertising revenue.
The advertising push lets companies pay to show their page posts to people via the newsfeed, even if users didn't subscribe to that product or brand, the Inquisitr reports.
Previously, it was only possible to show these pages to all users through ads in the web sidebar.
While there is no way for a Facebook user to opt out of the ads, a Facebook spokesperson said the company had limits in place "to ensure that people's newsfeeds are not filled with advertising".
"We think this will make it easier for businesses to reach more people," the spokesperson said.
