Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin: it was thus originally called ‘Bamford & Martin Ltd’. The name Aston Martin was adopted in 1914 following a run by Martin up ‘Aston Hill’ in Buckinghamshire: the first Aston Martin, called ‘Coal Scuttle’ was built in 1915.
