New Zealanders are optimistic about the future and believe the worst of the recession is over, according to an annual Mood of the Nation survey.
Almost 70 percent of people said they believed 2010 would be better than this year, according to media reports.
Only 20 percent of people surveyed said they believed things would get worse.
This time last year more than double that amount of people were pessimistic about the future, with 44 per cent of people stating they expected this year to be worse than 2008.
The survey found a steadily increasing optimism about the economy as the year progressed.
Satisfaction with work and finances rated 80 percent and 79 percent satisfaction respectively.
Kiwis listed the most important problems facing the country as the economy, followed by unemployment, and then crime and violence in third place.
Results were taken from 750 people who were surveyed to gauge the mood of the country and questioned about a wide range of issues, including the economy.
